1000 Words: “Be Honest, Do I Look Like Dr. Doom?”

Hooped Up | December 2, 2009

Charlie Villanueva is questionable for tonight’s Pistons contest against the Bulls, due to the broken nose he suffered Sunday against the Hawks. After getting surgery on Monday, Charlie V (CV31) got fitted for his mask yesterday and posted the above pic on Twitter.

If he ever gets tired of that plain mask, he can always use the top 5 other options I suggested to Rip Hamilton.

Hooped Up | October 26, 2009

Another van glorious season of NBA basketball is about to begin and Hooped Up does a quick and dirty preview of all 30 clubs.

Since making automobile references are mandatory when talking about the Pistons. This summer, Detroit got a new driver in head coach John Kuester plus brand new after market bolt on parts Charlie Villanueva, Ben Gordon and Chris Wilcox. But will they get better performance out of their upgraded whip? Read More »

All-Anything: The All-Twitter First Team

Hooped Up | August 25, 2009

Twitter is a juggernaut and it’s become the choice social media tool used by all. It trumps Facebook and Myspace because it’s easy to use, provides you direct access to people and it’s super addictive. Plus, those with multiple personality disorder now finally have somebody to talk to, although nobody will answer back, but on Twitter that’s completely fine and they’re already use to that.

The NBA has been front and center of the twitternology line and every team and nearly every player now has a Twitter account spitting out randomness 24/7 and I love it! With that said, there are five players that do it the best and they have been named to the Hooped Up All-Twitter First Team.

To make this team you have to have an active account, it has to be certified and you have to be a Twitter ninja.

Charlie V Will Get His Tweet On In The D

Hooped Up | July 20, 2009

Last season, with the Milwaukee Bucks Charlie Villanueva aka @CV31 got in a wittle trouble for sending out a tweet at halftime of a game about picking up his performance, tweeting “In da locker room, snuck to post my twitt. We’re playing the Celtics, tie ball game at da half. Coach wants more toughness. I gotta step up”.

Now that Charlie V is a Piston, in an interview with SI.com he was asked if he’ll be doing the same thing with his new team.

“I haven’t talked to coach (John Kuester) about that,” Villanueva said, laughing. “But (Pistons president) Joe Dumars is all for it. He gave me his blessing.”

If the Pistons are winning, I’m sure Joe Dumars will tell @CV31 tweet from the sidelines, but if the Pistons suck ain’t nobody gettin’ deh tweet on.

Villanueva And Gordon Sign With Detroit

Hooped Up | July 2, 2009

The Pistons wasted no time signing free agents as fast as they could and as a result Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva will now call Detroit home.

According to league sources, Ben Gordon has agreed in principle to a deal worth $55 Million over 5 years and Charlie Villanueva has agreed in principle to a $35 million pact with Detroit for the same length of time. Last season with the Bulls Gordon averaged 20.7 points for the Chicago, leading them in scoring for the fourth straight year and should be able to keep near that average in Detroit.

Charlie Villanueva, who turns 25 next month, averaged 16.2 points and 6.7 rebounds last season for the Milwaukee Bucks. Villanueva went from being a restricted free agent to an unrestricted one when Milwaukee chose to not make him a qualifying offer.

I’m officially confused about what Joe Dumars is trying to do in Detroit.

The Cavs Want Villanueva

Hooped Up | June 30, 2009

The NBA is changing by the day and, it seems, it always affects the Cavaliers. In a move that was considered shocking in corners Monday, the Milwaukee Bucks decided not to offer young free-agent power forward Charlie Villanueva a qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent. He now will be unrestricted, which makes him significantly easier to sign because the Bucks will not have matching rights. According to sources, Villanueva now will be one of the Cavs’ free-agent targets when teams are allowed to speak with them Wednesday.

Outlet Pass: CV31 Tweets, LeBron NYC + Punjabi Raptors

Hooped Up | March 18, 2009

Bucks forward Charlie Villanueva got a talking-to from Scott Skiles after the coach learned that Villanueva had posted a message to his Twitter feed – a “tweet” – from his mobile phone at halftime of Sunday’s home win over the Celtics. “Anything that gives the impression that we’re not serious and focused at all times is not the correct way we want to go about our business,” Skiles said yesterday. Using the screen name “CV31″ – his initials and jersey number – Villanueva posted this message during halftime: “In da locker room, snuck to post my twitt. We’re playing the Celtics, tie ball game at da half. Coach wants more toughness. I gotta step up.” Villanueva finished with a team high of 19 points.

Hooped Up: Milwaukee Bucks 08-09 Season Preview

Hooped Up | October 25, 2008

A team-by-team preview of all 30 NBA teams heading into the 2008 – 2009 season, Hooped Up style.

Milwaukee Bucks
The more things change, the more they stay the same.  The Bucks made a lot of changes this summer and even talked about moving the only star on the team in Micheal Redd, but this squad is still much the same. They hired Scott Skiles who will preach defense, added an impact wing player in Richard Jefferson and handed the reigns to Luc Ridnour after telling Mo Williams good bye in a trade to the Cavaliers. They have perimeter scoring covered but the depth in the front court is shallow and Bogut could use some real help.

Will frustrated Milwaukee fans finally have something to cheer about this year?

Projected Starters: PG - Luc Ridnour / SG - Micheal Redd / SF - Richard Jefferson / PF - Charlie Villanueva / C -  Andrew Bogut

Additions:  Richard Jefferson, Luke Ridnour, Damon Jones, Adrian Griffin, Tyronn Lue, Malik Allen, Francisco Elson, Joe Alexander, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute

Losses: Maurice Williams, Desmond Mason, Yi Jianlian, Bobby Simmons, Royal Ivey

Projected Wins: 29+

Team Theme Song:  Beenie Man – Who Am I
This team does not have an identity and they need to ask themselves who are we. Zim Zimah!

Overall
Scott Skiles could have this squad playing smarter defensively, Andrew Bogut will continue to improve, Charlie Villanueva will get to showcase his underrated talents and Michael Redd and Richard Jefferson will pair to form one of the best wing combos in the league.  Howev, they still need a calling card to beat other teams, so they can grow on something and find a much needed direction .  If the Bucks were thinking about trading Micheal Redd this summer it’s pretty clear they are kinda confused. Who’s team is this

The playoffs won’t happen but, defense wins games and if they can buy into the philosophy of Scott Skiles they just might find their identity and be better next year.

Villanueva Wants Out

Hooped Up | January 30, 2008

Charlie Villanueva: “I would really like to make Milwaukee a part of my future, but it doesn’t seem realistic at this point in time unless something changes. The moves made by management in the last few months indicate to me that I’m not as important as I once was to this team. I’m not completely sold on my role with the Milwaukee Bucks. And listen folks, I’m just being honest here with you guys. I’m not trying to start any more ‘rah-rah’ to add to the rumors.”
