The Spanish Basketball team that travels to Turkey for the FIBA World Championships to defend its title will have to do so without the services of Pau Gasol.
“After a period of reflection with my doctors, physical preparers and physiotherapists, both Spanish and American, I have told the President of the Spanish Basketball Federation Jose Luis Saez and the coach, Sergio Scariolo, that current circumstances go against my participation in the next World Championships, This year I have suffered two important muscle injuries explained Gasol, the first in my career, and I believe that the time has come to rest. I think it is better to choose the moment rather than for my body to choose it for me at the least appropriate moment,”
Gasol also expressed his interest in continuing to play for the Spanish national team in the future.
