Hasheem Thabeet will give up his final season of eligibility at the University of Connecticut and put his name in the 2009 NBA draft. The school issued a statement late this afternoon quoting Thabeet as saying he’d discussed the matter with friends and family and with Coach Jim Calhoun.
For his part, Calhoun called the junior from Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania “more than ready to make the move to the next level. He averaged 13.6 points per game and 10.8 rebounds and 4.2 blocked shots last season.Â
He’s the eleventh UConn player to declare early for the draft.
