Hooped Up | October 31, 2008

The man responsible for many a nightmare in the NBA, and has haunted defenders like they laid there dead cat to rest in an old native burial ground. It’s the Halloween top 5,  staring Michael Jordan and the players he has haunted.

5. The Celtics

Everybody it seemed had a shot a guarding Michael Jordan and everybody ended up looking like they were on skates 63 points later. After the game Larry Bird said “I didn’t think anyone was capable of doing what Michael has done to us,” marveled Celtics ace Larry Bird. “He is the most exciting, awesome player in the game today. I think it’s just God disguised as Michael Jordan.”

Jordan averaged 43.7 ppg, 5.7 apg, and 6.3 rpg for the three games series against the Boston Celtics. Read the rest of this entry »

Jazz Owner Bans “Zack And Miri Make A Porno”

Hooped Up |

Utah Jazz owner Larry Miller does not want you to see the latest Kevin Smith comedy titled “Zack And Miri Make A Porno” so bad, that he has pulled it from his chain of megaplex theaters.  Don’t worry thought, he’s okay with Saw V because a guy only gets cut in half and he knows guidance counselors and sex ed teachers have covered that chapter already.

“We feel [Zack and Miri] is very close to an NC-17 with its graphic nudity and graphic sex,” the chain’s General Manager Cal Gunderson [who I guaran-goddamn-tee you hasn't seen it] said. Asked why Megaplex has no problem showing the R-rated, ultra-violent “Saw V,” which shows a man forced to crush his own hands to escape a pendulum cutting him in half, Gunderson said: “No comment.”

NY Post

Below is the trailer for “Zack And Miri Make A Porno” out today and it’s SFW, unless you work for Larry Miller. Read the rest of this entry »

Lakers Make It Rain On Bynum

Hooped Up |

The Lakers made it rain on Andrew Bynum signing him to four-year deal worth $57.4 million.  To celebrate I think he should make it rain vocoder’s in the Lakers lockeroom now that he’s not dirt poor.

“With an average salary of $14.35 million instead of the maximum $17 million, the Lakers just got about a $10-million discount over four seasons (three guaranteed, the fourth at the team’s option, limiting its exposure in case of catastrophic injury). Add in another $10 million in luxury tax and the Lakers just saved about $20 million. Of course, the injury poses a risk, but which of their players doesn’t run a risk every time he goes out there? ”

Ariza Contract Talk Next

Hooped Up |

The Lakers will have to shell out for young forward Trevor Ariza if they want to keep him but will they?

“Andrew Bynum on Thursday signed a four-year contract extension worth $57.4 million, but the Lakers aren’t done talking with agent David Lee. Lee also represents forward Trevor Ariza, who will be an unrestricted free agent in July in what could be another lengthy contract negotiation. Ariza has increased his all-around game, adding a three-point shot to an already intriguing mix of solid defense and burst around the basket. ”

2010 NBA All-Star Game In Texas

Hooped Up |

The biggest NBA all-star game ever, will take place in the new Dallas Cowboy stadium scheduled for completion in 2010. Yee-Haw!!!

“Stern announced the plans yesterday in a ceremony outside the American Airlines Center near downtown Dallas, where the Mavericks play. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones also attended the ceremony.

If all goes according to plan, the event will set the record for the largest crowd ever to watch an NBA game, shattering the mark of 44,735 set at the 1989 All-Star Game, held at another Texas-size venue, the Houston Astrodome.”

David Beckham Loves Basketball…Cheerleaders

Hooped Up |

During the season opener between the Lakers and Blazers Tuesday night in the Staples Centre. LA blew out Portland by 20 points, Greg Oden got injured and Kobe Bryant looked great! But, if your David Beckham you don’t care because none of these things had to do with the Lakers dance teams @sses.

In these pictures he has a look of concentration on his face, reserved only for taking a shot at goal with a free kick in the World Cup.

Marbury Backs Obama

Hooped Up | October 30, 2008

In the Knicks season opener, Stephon Marbury did not contribute in a 115 - 120 victory over the Miami Heat, but he did contributing to Senator Barack Obama’s presidential run along with Alex Rodriguez.

“Marbury, who donated the individual maximum of $2,300 to Obama’s campaign in June 2007, said he’s not looking for a tax break from the next president, even though his 2008-09 salary of $20.8 million puts him in an income bracket the rest of us can only dream about.

In fact, Marbury told Newsday on Monday that he’s more than willing to pay his share and even endorsed what he called Obama’s plan to “spread the wealth.”

Maxiell Gets Richer

Hooped Up |

Pistons power forward Jason Maxiell accepted a contract offer today and will not become a restricted free agent following the season. The deal is for $20 million over four years. The deadline for him to reach an agreement was today.

Maxiell, 25, was a first-round pick out of Cincinnati in 2005 and has averaged six points and 3.7 rebounds per game in his career.Maxiell is the second big man off the bench behind Antonio McDyess, and coach Michael Curry expects him to get 20 minutes per game.

It appeared earlier this month that Maxiell would decline the offer and see if he could get a better deal next summer, but that, obviously, is no longer the case.
