Before Deron Williams re-signed with Brooklyn for a very healthy $99 million over five years. All the buzz was about D.Will potentially heading to Dallas for around $75 million over four years. Even Latrell Sprewell would agree that a family could be fed on either contracts. So in the end, it came down to the free agent presentations from both clubs to sway Williams back to Brooklyn or south to Dallas.
We all know how things eventually played out, but Williams recently let it be known if Mavericks owner Mark Cuban bothered to show up as part of the Mavs recruiting team. Things could have gone much differently.
“A lot of the questions that me and my agent had for them really didn’t get answered that day — you know, pertaining to the future,” Williams said. “And I think if he was there, he would have been able to answer those questions a little bit better. Maybe would have helped me.”
I’m sure the next time Cubes is faced with the decision of meeting with one of the best point guards in the league or filming an episode of “Shark Tank”. He’ll choose more wisely.
