Kobe Bryant has achieved rock star status in China and with another ring on his finger that status only grows. Kobe has already visited China on five different occasions to see his expanding fan base across the water and when you factor in China being Nike’s second largest market outside the U.S. Don’t expect much of a gap between his current visit and his next one.
While in Changchun, a northeastern Chinese city for the first time to promote a few things and to run a few camps. The former league MVP discussed his adoration for Bruce Lee and drew parallels between Lee’s famous Jeet Kune Do (Way of the Intercepting Fist) style to his style of play on court. Being the Kung Fu nerd I am, I’d have to agree with that comparison. Jeet Kune Do places an emphasis on practicality, flexibility, speed, and efficiency without being rigid in scenarios of chaotic street fighting.
Watching Kobe Bryant play, and shake multiple defenders to get his shot off by any means necessary backs up the Mamba’s claim. The audio of this video is terrible, but listen close and you’ll hear Kobe work the Bruce Lee angle to perfection.
