Reeling Wizards can’t challenge Jazz
Thanks to a schedule that didn’t call for them to play in the first 60-plus games, the Jazz never saw the Washington Wizards team of Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler that made all the wrong headlines in the NBA this season.
By the time they arrived at EnergySolutions Arena for Monday’s game, the Wizards’ season long ago had been lost to guns, guilty pleas and recklessness, leaving Andray Blatche, Al Thornton, Mike Miller and others to pick up the pieces.
The Jazz took full advantage of a team in free fall, dismantling Washington 65-35 in the middle two quarters on the way to a 112-89 thrashing, leading by as many as 34 points in sending the Wizards to their eighth consecutive loss…

Mehmet Okur’s back, and so is his sore back
The way Mehmet Okur aggressively started Monday night’s game, you would’ve never guessed that he sat one out the day before with a sore back. “I felt great at the beginning,” Okur said, “and wanted to be active.” It showed.
Fifteen seconds into the Utah Jazz’s 112-89 walloping of Washington, Okur charged to the basket like a raging bull for a powerful dunk. A minute later, the starting center barreled in for a fast-break layup.
Though he missed the ensuing foul shot, Okur certainly didn’t miss the opportunity to make a quick mark in this game and to again show his worth to the Jazz after sitting out Sunday’s loss in Oklahoma City with a back sprain.
“It was nice to see Memo back,” Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. “That helps us when he’s out there on the floor, because he gives us another shooter.”..
