Jason Williams, released last month by the Orlando Magic, signed a contract Monday to return to the Memphis Grizzlies, where he played from 2001-05.
Grizzlies officials announced the signing moments before the game with the Los Angeles Lakers. The signing had been rumoured for about a week, but the team would not confirm their interest in the point guard until he was officially signed. He was seated on the bench for the Lakers game, and will travel to Oklahoma City, where the Grizzlies play Tuesday night.
Williams, a 12-year veteran, was released by Orlando on Jan. 26. He had been relegated to fourth on the depth chart behind Jameer Nelson, the recently acquired Gilbert Arenas and Chris Duhon.
Williams averaged 2.1 points and 1.5 assists and 16 games for the Magic.
