Last week Lower Merion High School in Pennsylvania, dedicated their basketball court to the man who led the Aces to the 1996 PIAA state basketball championship then entered the NBA draft a few months later. That man’s name, Kobe Bryant.
As part of the court dedication, mosaic artist Jonathan Mandell created a 4 x 3 foot piece (above) to honor Kobe who also donated $411,000 to fund the new Lower Merion High School facility.
Inspired by a great action shot taken of Kobe during his high school days. Jonathan Mandell used Photoshop to decide how he was going to break up the anatomy in the replication process to capture the pictures likeness of Kobe, then worked hard to create the believability of physical motion in his piece. Using minerals and stones to project the moment in time he reproduced in his medium. I would say he definitely succeed.
