Former McDonald’s All-American and California native Paul Pierce was honoured by Inglewood Mayor Daniel K. Tabor and other important community members during a two-hour ceremony to retire his high school jersey in Inglewood. Cool!
“This is a great day for me,” Pierce said. “It’s a great honour. There’s only a few people that have had their jersey retired at the high school.”
Pierce was actually cut from his high school team twice before finally blossoming into a star during his junior and senior years before accepting a scholarship to play for Kansas. Other players of note that attended Inglewood high school are Reggie Theus, Harold Miner and Ralph Jackson.
The truth also chimed in on the off-season moves made by the Celtics and he’s pumped to play with the guy that gave him his nickname “The Truth” when he entered the league. “I’m excited,” Pierce said of playing with O’Neal. “He’s one of my all-time favourite players, and now I have a chance to play with one of the greatest players to ever play the game.”
