Don’t get me wrong, I dig the way Travis Outlaw plays the game of basketball. He’s young, athletic, long, scores in bunches and is a dead-eye three-point shooter. But if you wanna land the biggest prize in the league, you can’t bring a Travis Outlaw to a NBA free agency gun fight and expect to land you know who. According to The Star-Ledger, Outlaw will sign a five-year deal worth $35 million with the New Jersey Nets.
“We are very pleased to add Travis to our roster,” Rod Thorn said in a statement.. “He is a young, athletic player who will fit in very well with the style of play that Avery (Johnson) has installed.”
The only problem with adding Outlaw to the current roster of young, athletic swingmen in New Jersey is that well — he’s just going to be another young, athletic, swingman in New Jersey. After a season of just winning 12 games with the “swingman formula” Jersey might want to switch it up to possibly win games. I’m just sayin’.
Last season, Outlaw played 34 games with the Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Clippers averaging 9.9 points and 3.5 rebounds with the Trail Blazers and 8.7 points and 3.6 rebounds with the Clippers.
