Ain’t nothing going on but the rent so far in free agency 2010, Paul Pierce re-signed, Dirk Nowitzki resigned and all-star guard Joe Johnson — has agreed to re-sign to a maximum contract with the Atlanta Hawks.
According to Arn Tellem of the Huffington Post, Johnson announced his intention to re-sign with the Hawks for six more years.’
Sure, the Hawks are on the rise but this move is all about the Benjamins Lil’ Kim. While other teams like the Bulls, Knicks and Mavericks could only give JJ a five-year deal and roughly $25 million less. Atlanta could pay Johnson nearly $120 million for six. No abacus needed to see staying was is a good business move.
On the downside, by paying Johnson in full, the Hawks will have to get cost creative to add winning pieces to a puzzle that seems stuck in the second round of the playoffs for the past two years.
