Davidson guard Stephen Curry has decided to skip his senior season to enter the NBA Draft.
Curry held a press conference Thursday and announced his plans. He is expected to hire an agent and, in turn, would not be eligible to return to school.
“My goal, since I can remember, has been to play in the NBA,” Curry said Thursday. “That has now become a viable opportunity for me. After weighing my options, I came to the conclusion that it is in my best interest to take hold of that opportunity now.”
After leading the Wildcats to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament as a sophomore in the spring of 2008, Curry had a banner junior campaign. He led the nation in scoring, averaging 28.6 points in 34 games — more than 16 points better than the team’s second-leading scorer, but could not guide the squad to a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
