Linas Kleiza sank the match-sealing three-pointer with 2.1 seconds remaining to give Lithuania a 79-75 victory over defending champion Argentina in their opening game of the Olympic basketball tournament.
Kleiza, who plays for the Denver Nuggets in the NBA, led a balanced Lithuanian attack with 13 points as the Europeans squandered a 75-64 lead in the final seconds but hung on for the victory.
“The shot felt good,” Kleiza said. “I was shooting good. It was great we won the game.
“It’s a great win. We really feel good about that. But there is still a long way to go.”
