Homer News: Oklahoma City Thunder (38-24)

Russell Westbrook takes out Kings
When Russell Westbrook drove coast-to-coast to convert a lefty layup and draw a foul on Sacramento center Spencer Hawes with 8:33 left to play, the Thunder point guard stared into the stands at Arco Arena and pounded his chest. And, really, by that point, he had every right to.

The play symbolized how Westbrook sliced through Sacramento on Sunday, carving up the Kings in the second half to lead the Thunder to a 108-102 win before an announced crowd of 12,081.

Westbrook overcame an ugly cut over his right eye in the third quarter when Kings forward Carl Landry raked him across the face with 9:58 remaining in the period. Westbrook was taken to the locker room and received six stitches to stop the profuse bleeding. He returned with 50.7 seconds left in the frame and played the rest of the way.

The Rookies Play A Ditty For Your Vote

Hooped Up | January 9, 2009

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

With the added twist of a rookie being voted in to this years Slam Dunk contest. Potential candidates Rudy Fernandez, Russell Westbrook and Joe Alexander are doing whatever it takes to get your vote. Rudy Fernandez Shares a Bilingual Dunk Ballad, Russell Westbrook Shares His Get-Out-And-Vote Song, and Joe Alexander Tells You Why He’s the Flying Buck.

If I was on the ballot I would promise economic stability, more after school programs for your children and cheaper beer to lock up your vote.  Because the promise of cheap beer locks up a vote every time! But enough about me and my political aspirations, on to the Russell Westbrook and Joe Alexander sales pitch.

Served: A Communist Dunk Regime Gets Got By A Democratic One

Hooped Up | January 29, 2008

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

For this years edition of the All-Star weekend dunk competition. You at home can decide which rookie will join Nate Robinson, Rudy Gay and defending dunk champ Dwight Howard in the action. The three rookies you have to choose from are Rudy Fernandez, Joe Alexander and Russell Westbrook. Not a bad bunch, lets hope voters get it right!

Call me old fashion, but I liked when the pressure to join the dunk competition was so great that a Jordan vs. Wilkins duel of greats had to happen. In the past it was expected for the dunking greats of the league to participate in this event and even more importantly they wanted too.
Damn you NBA democracy!
