Bobcats Sign Larry Hughes

Hooped Up | March 13, 2010

The Charlotte Bobcats have signed veteran guard Larry Hughes to help with depth in the backcourt as they attempt to reach the playoffs for the first time.

Meanwhile, an MRI on forward Gerald Wallace’s left ankle on Saturday revealed no fractures or ligament ruptures. But Wallace likely will miss Sunday’s game at Orlando after being injured on Friday.

General manager Rod Higgins announced this month they wouldn’t sign Hughes because of his broken finger. But the injury has healed sooner than expected, and Hughes could be ready to play in about a week. Read More »

Kings Waive Larry Hughes

Hooped Up | February 23, 2010

Well, that was fast. Days after the Sacramento Kings acquired guard Larry Hughes from the New York Knickerbockers in a three-way trade that also involved the Houston Rockets.

Hughes was waived by Kings GM Geoff Petrie according to Adrian Wojnarkowski of Yahoo! Sports. From the beginning it was the addition of the salary of Hughes that was more important to the Kings ($13 million), that will now melt away from Sac Town’s books this summer like body fat after a P90X workout.

In 30 days Hughes will be free to join any team in the league that is interested in his services.

Hooped Up | October 12, 2009

Another van glorious season of NBA basketball is about to begin and Hooped Up does a quick and dirty preview of all 30 clubs — so lets go!

The torment and torture of being a Knicks fan could end in the summer of 2010, if they’re able to sign a big name free agent like unknown LeBron James, but unless the Knicks bump into Doc Brown and gun it to 2010 today. Expect to see a high powered offence that produces the opposite of wins in 09-10. Read More »

Larry Hughes Could Be On The Move

Hooped Up | June 22, 2009

There have been recent conversations between the teams about players, mainly ones the Wizards are interested in on the Knicks roster. But what may come as a surprise is that Wilson Chandler doesn’t appear to be the main ingredient here. In fact, from multiple sources with knowledge of the Wizards’ strategizing, they’re the ones who have inquired about two former Wiz players, Larry Hughes and Jared Jeffries.

The Knicks are all ears.

Larry Hughes Traded To Knicks

Hooped Up | February 19, 2009

The Bulls are feeling nostalgic again and have made a trade to bring back another former Chicago Bull.

This deal has Larry Hughes going to the Knicks in exchange for Thomas, Jerome James and Anthony Roberson going to the Chicago Bulls.

“I played with Tim for a couple years and had him in Phoenix. I didn’t have any problem with him. I enjoyed playing with him,” Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said. “That was a long time ago. I’ll sit down and talk to Tim, tell him what I expect from him, what his role is. I expect him to be professional and go do his job. He has the ability to help us.

Yesterday, the Bulls made a trade to bring back former Chicago Bull Brad Miller from the Sacramento Kings.

Larry Hughes Is On The Block

Hooped Up | January 9, 2009

Being a good commodity is a double edged sword and Larry Hughes the contract, might be more valuable than Larry Hughes the player these days in Chi-town

“Larry Hughes has been traded twice during his 11-year career, and that number will grow this season if the Bulls and Hughes get their way. “If you get traded, obviously another team wants you, so it’s always a positive in that way,” Hughes said. “I definitely want to play minutes and contribute. That’s a focus of mine. Hopefully, I’ll get the opportunity to do that in the near future.”

Hughes Sinks The Jazz With Buzzer Beater

Hooped Up | November 25, 2008

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

I remember when Larry Hughes was traded to the Warriors by the 76ers back in the day and instantly went nova, in what turned out to be his best season statistically. Since then he’s been an injury and trade machine playing for the Wizards, Cavaliers and now the Bulls; but last night he turned back the clock and came up big against the Jazz  with a buzzer beater for the game.

Jolly good show Larry!

Hughes Dislocates Shoulder

Hooped Up | October 23, 2008

Like I was saying yesterday, what’s up with all the injuries? The preseason has turned into Thunderdome.

“The Bulls said Larry Hughes suffered a dislocated right shoulder after colliding with Timberwolves swingman Mike Miller late in the third quarter of Wednesday’s game.

Hughes, who had started and scored 21 points to that point, crumpled to the ground after chasing a loose ball and stayed down for several minutes. Athletic trainer Fred Tedeschi sprinted to attend to Hughes, who walked off the floor along with Tedeschi and the Timberwolves’ trainer in obvious pain.

A team spokesperson said Hughes’ shoulder had been popped back in place. The team wouldn’t speculate on the length of Hughes’ absence.”
