Amare Has Been Watching Soccer

Hooped Up | November 6, 2008

This kinda flopping would get Amare Stoudemire a red card in any soccer league, unless Tim Donaghy moves to soccer! I can’t believe Vlade Divac let Stoudemire graduate from the “Vlade Divac Big Man Flop Institute” with this piss poor execution! Divac must have been crushing cigarette packs as he rolling over with disgust on his living room floor watching this footage.

Amare went down like he got a headbutt to the chest, a flare thrown at him and had fireworks launched at him (crazy) at the same time ..yes, freakin’ fireworks!!!

My condolences go out to Jeff Foster’s family; at least he went out playing the game he loved…What?  You mean he survived that dunk…and he’s alive…HOLY SH#T!!!

Hooped Up: Phoenix Suns 08-09 Season Preview

Hooped Up | October 29, 2008

A team-by-team preview of all 30 NBA teams heading into the 2008 - 2009 season, Hooped Up style.

Phoenix Suns
On paper this team is amazing! Steve Nash and Shaquille O’Neal are muti MVP winners, Grant Hill and Amare Stoudemire have each won the Rookie of the Year award, Leandro Barbosa won Sixth Man of the year and Boris Diaw won the Most Improved Player award. With such a decorated squad, you’d think they would be oozing championships but, only the new guy Shaq can speak about that accomplishment and unfortunetly he can’t contribute like he did in the past to get those rings in Phoenix.

The whole team is getting older and if the window is still open, it’s by a crack.

Projected Starters: PG - Steve Nash / SG - Raja Bell / SF - Matt Barnes / PF - Amare Stoudemire / C - Shaquille O’Neal

Additions: Robin Lopez, Goran Dragic, Sean Singletary,Matt Barnes, Louis Amundson

Losses: Brian Skinner, Gordon Giricek, Sean Marks, D.J. Strawberry, Eric Piatkowski, Linton Johnson

Projected Wins: 44+

Team Theme Song:  Kanye West - Stronger
What doesn’t kill this group of vets can only make them stronger. For how strong is the question thought.

Overall
The truth of the matter is that the Suns were a Robert Horry hip check away from a championship in 2007 and that might have been the last real chance. They went more halfcourt by dumping Mike D’Antoni and Shawn Marion in favor of Terry Porter and Shaquille O’Neal and inserted newly acquired Matt Barnes into the starting line up.  Steve Nash is still one of the best players in the league and will be the engine of this group, and Amare Stoudemire is still on the incline at just 25 years old. This team is so talented but after they blew their chance in 2007, everybody else in the west got better and things instantly got harder.

The playoffs yes, a Championship…probably not but, this is the league were amazing happens so you never know.

Stoudemire Dislocates Pinky

Hooped Up | October 24, 2008

Another reason preseason is about 5 games too long.  These wins count for nothing and the tickets are just as expensive and star players get injured.  Preseaseon sucks!  I just want to watch some real games and listen to The Basketball Jones, is that asking to much Stern?

“Phoenix Suns forward Amare Stoudemire sustained a dislocated left pinky finger in Thursday’s preseason win over the Oklahoma City Thunder 102-93. Stoudemire tallied 17 points before the incident. Stoudemire sustained the injury with 3:45 remaining in the third period. Phoenix said the injury was minor and the All-Star should be ready when the Suns head for San Antonio for their season opener Wednesday.”

Amare Stoudemire On Yo Gabba Gabba!

Hooped Up | September 25, 2008

I don’t know how I missed this one but, some how I did.  Any show with Amare Stoudemire as the dancey dance friend of the day and Biz Markie on it period is one thing…tight! The kids these days have it pretty good.  It’s not like Big Daddy Kane, was on Sesame Street back in the day.  My favorite part is at 00:15 when Amare has a bit of the teleport legs.

It’s good to see that unnecessary teleporting is still alive and well since the Special Ed - Neva Go Back video days.

Steve Nash Is The Sixty Million Dollar Man

Hooped Up | August 13, 2008

Nash has been money for bloggers in a a slow off season, dude has been everywhere. As a Lee Majors and Six Million Dollar Man fan, this Steve Nash Sixty Million Dollar Man ad was straight money! I get giddy just hearing the music!

Not only did Nash star in this Nike spot for his environmentally friendly  Trash Talk shoes but, he also produced and directed too.

Somebody please make a non-cheese movie version of The Six Million Dollar Man!

Amaré Off USA Roster

Hooped Up | June 20, 2008

Amaré Stoudemire has pulled out of being possibly selected for the USA Basketball Olympic roster.

Jerry Colangelo, managing director for the USA Basketball senior men’s national team, said today that Stoudemire is not on the 12-man Olympic roster that will be announced Monday in Chicago.

“Amaré has pulled himself out of consideration for the roster and that’s predicated on, despite the fact that he’s had an injury-free year coming back (from knee surgeries in 2005 and 2006), he’s a little hesitant on pushing the envelope too hard,” Colangelo said.

Is Amare In The Doghouse?

Hooped Up | January 8, 2008

The Suns told Raja Bell to stay home from Sunday’s practice as he continues to suffer from the flu. But Amare Stoudemire stayed home on his own Sunday, calling trainer Aaron Nelson to say he wouldn’t be showing up due to what Suns coach Mike D’Antoni would only say were “personal reasons.” Sunday afternoon, Suns general manager Steve Kerr said from San Diego that he plans to return to the Valley Monday morning to speak with Stoudemire about the circumstances surrounding his absence. He would not comment on whether disciplinary action in the form of a fine or suspension was under consideration.

Stoudemires Defensive Is The Key

Hooped Up | April 27, 2007

When it’s there, the Suns appear to be the NBA’s best team. When it’s not, opponents gleefully line up for layup drills that harden the opinions of the team’s skeptics. “It” is Amaré Stoudemire’s interior defense.

It was there during 15- and 17-game win streaks.

It wasn’t so much when the Suns looked like an ordinary team for much of the post All-Star game schedule.

And it’s been back for the Suns’ two playoff wins over the Lakers.

Stoudemire had four blocks, nine defensive rebounds and several altered shots in Tuesday’s 126-98 rout of Los Angeles in Game 2.

The exclamation points came on two early spectacular blocks of Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom — defensive gems that set the stage for the Suns to explode and the Lakers to wilt.

My problem would not be, ‘Can I play in the game?’ It would be, ‘Can I get up the next morning?’ That’s one of the reasons I stopped playing. I got tired of crawling to the breakfast table the next morning. — Scott Skiles
