J.R. Smith, Bad Speller Or Blood?

Hooped Up | August 4, 2009

Is J.R. Smith a Blood or just a bad speller? For the past few weeks on Twitter, J.R. Smith has been replacing all the words in his post that would have a “C” in them with “K,” which is a practice commonly associated with the Bloods street gang.

He’s been saying stuff like ”Vegas here I kome!”, ”Kant wait to get bak in the swing of things” and when he was released from jail he wrote ”I just Kame home. . . . I kouldnt have done it with out yall.”

“Those are still little messages that are being transcended back to some of the neighborhoods,” said Rev. Leon Kelly, executive director of Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives in Denver. “Not to say in no way is he promoting a gang. But people got to understand that a lot of these kids come from gang neighborhoods. Their friends are still involved in doing what they do. Just because one was able to get out of that lifestyle, many of them don’t forget where they come from.”

If J.R. Smith is interested in not forgetting where he came from like Rev. Leon Kelly suggests. I’d suggest Smith take some of those millions he’s making and investing it in a community center or after school programs for kids that grew up where he did if he wants a connection to the old neighbourhood.

Trust me J.R. Smith, if you can spare a kid from joining a gang, he’ll have you in his thoughts for life.
