For the first time in 10 years since the Doernbecher joint program with Nike started. The Air Foamposite One has been added as a canvas and Baseball loving Elijah Diggins (14-year-old) diagnosed with Burkitt’s Leukemia had the chance to tell his story using the fabled shoe.
Elijah’s design features his custom smiley-face logo, which turns into his initials when viewed sideways. The fiery red and black palette as a tribute to his favorite athlete, Lebron James. On the tongue, Japanese characters symbolize courage, along with Elijah’s signature and a chain-link graphic on the sockliner taken from a silver bracelet given to him from his parents when he began chemotherapy. For Elijah, his design was a personal thank-you to the hospital he credits with saving his life. “When I was in the hospital, I kept thinking ‘Doernbecher has done so much for me—how am I going to give back?’” The shoe Elijah designed also comes with a matching windbreaker and hat.
