Last season Tracy McGrady was pulling down a dizzying $23.4 million a year as the highest paid player in the league. Today, McGrady signed a contract with the Detroit Pistons for the league minimum which is $1.35 million for a veteran with 10 or more years of service.
Of course, making just over is million is nothing to sneeze at for us regular folks, but for a guy that is only 31-years old that won the scoring title twice in the last 7 years. It’s a reality check of his rapidly declining skills.
The last time T-Mac had a healthy season was 2004-05. Then he missed 34 games during the 2005-06 season with back problems and missed 16 games in 2007-08 with elbow and knee injuries. Over the past two seasons, McGrady missed 99 games after undergoing microfracture surgery on his left knee.
Last season with the New York Knicks, McGrady averaged a near career low 8.2 points. His lowest scoring output since his rookie season in 1997-1998.
