Ever since Darko Milicic was selected 2nd overall in the 2003 NBA Draft ahead of Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade. The NBA has been a vast minutes desert for Darko and he wants out — unless he can get guaranteed NBA starter minutes.
“Yeah, I’d come back. That’s what I’m looking for,†the 7-footer said only a month after being rescued from exile on the Knicks’ bench. “Minnesota came up and they kind of trust me. They gave me a chance, and I like it.â€
Unless Kevin Love and Al Jefferson get eaten by Timberwolves during the off-season, this is not going to happen in Minnesota. Of course as a free agent, Milicic could latch on with another team this off-season, but chances are starter minutes won’t be waiting for him on team X either.
Since the beginning for whatever reason, Milicic has been stuck with a bum rap and a return to Europe might could be the best way for him to change the tide while getting regular minutes to develop his game for an NBA return. After all, dude is only 24 years old and the league will still be there when he’s ready.
