Did you know the fan base for Allen Iverson in Tanzania is huge? Probably not, because I just made that up. So why the heck would the Grizzlies donate 3,000 Iverson jerseys to Tanzania, especially since Memphis rookie Hasheem Thabeet was the first player born in Tanzania to play in the NBA?
Mostly because the Iverson appreciation night originally planned to give away 3000 A.I. jersey’s on Dec. 4th sans Iverson  would have been awkward. So A.I. night was remixed to a Marc Gasol appreciation night and the first 3,000 fans that enter the FedEx Forum on Dec.4th will now receive a free Gasol t-shirt. Impoverished children in Tanzania will receive freshly retro Allen Iverson Grizzlies jerseys as part of the Basketball Without Borders program on behalf of Hasheem Thabeet.
“We are thrilled to partner with Hasheem Thabeet and the NBA’s international program Basketball Without Borders,” Griz president of business operations Greg Campbell said before adding, “This also gives us the opportunity to recognize Marc Gasol for his inspiring start to the season.”
Ya see folks, good things did come out off Iverson going A.W.O.L.
