Former Detroit Piston great, Hall of Farmer and Top 50 of all-time selection Dave Bing has won the mayoral election in Detroit, becoming America’s 11-th largest cities newest man in charge.
“Bing’s stunning victory by a 4-point margin in Tuesday’s special mayoral election signaled the desire of Detroit voters to abandon the status quo of local politics.
Cockrel supporters were stunned as they gathered for his election night party. The Cockrel camp had been supremely confident of victory, raking in endorsements from several prominent unions.
Bing, 65, ran as a change agent and nonpolitician. He worked to convince voters that he would bring his business sensibilities to city government.
“I don’t intend to lose. We’re winning,” Bing said earlier in the day.”
As long as former mayor Kwame “Bucktown“Â Kilpatrick, stays clear of the current Detroit mayoral committee (including text messaging), Dave Bing should be good for the Motor City.Â
