Tonight the Philadelphia 76ers will honor recently deceased three-time NBA MVP Moses Malone. His former teammate Julius Erving aka Dr.J will make an appearance and the Sixers will make a special presentation to Malone’s family.
“Moses Malone was a Hall of Fame icon that had the game, stats, awards, and hardware to match. Moses will forever be known as the consummate teammate, the ‘Chairman of the Boards’ and an integral part of the Sixers’ family,” said Philadelphia 76ers CEO Scott O’Neil. “Surrounded by his family, friends, and 1982-83 teammate we will celebrate the life and honor the career of a man who inspired and challenged generations of ballplayers, delighted millions of fans, and shaped the future of the NBA and the game of basketball.”
Malone’s number was never retired by the Sixers, so let’s hope this is the day his jersey hangs above the court. As part of the festivities, the first 15,000 fans in attendance will receive a tribute poster. While Sixers players will wear red shooting shirts with “Malone” on the back and the number “2” encased in a black star on the front.
