The front running Pacers decided to add some insurance at the pivot and have signed veteran Andrew Bynum to a $1 million contract for the reason of the season.
“We are obviously happy to have him join our team,” Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird said in a release. “He gives us added size, he is a skilled big man and he has championship experience. With the minutes he gets, he should be a valuable addition.”
Bounced from the Lakers, Sixers and Cavs all in the short period of a two years. Bynum is looking forward to being back in a winning situation.
“It really wasn’t a hard decision, I think it’s the right fit for me,” Bynum said in a statement. “In all honesty, I think we’ve got the best chance of winning. It will be great to back up Roy, and I’ll do whatever I can to help this team.”
At worst if the Bynum signing doesn’t work out, it cost the Pacers next to nothing to have him on the bench for a deep run in the playoffs. Better still, the fact the Pacers signed Bynum and another team didn’t could make all the difference. I’m looking at you Miami.
