Back in 2011 when President Barack Obama awarded Bill Russell with the highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He said “I hope that one day in the streets of Boston, children will look up at a statue built not only to Bill Russell the player,but Bill Russell the man.” Yesterday, that hope was made a long overdue reality as a statue of the Celtics legend and activist was unveiled in City Hall Plaza.
