Just when Patrick Ewing finally got through retired Michael Jordan and the Bulls. He ran into his old rival from his college days, Hakeem Olajuwon. During the 1994 NBA Finals over the course of seven games, “The Dream” was nothing short of fantastic, dominating Ewing in every game. For his efforts Houston won their first title and Olujuwon received the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player award.
Looking back, it seems like Ewing didn’t stand much of a chance duelling Olajuwon in his prime. That year “The Dream” also became the only player ever to win the MVP, Finals MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards in the same season. Those are tough odds. Art by Caroline Blanchet from France.
