Derrick Rose Calls Decision to Sit Out 'Selfish'

For the first time in a longtime. Derrick Rose sat down to talk about his progress, year off and plans to return for the 2013-14 NBA season. During his interview with BullsTV, Rose was very open about sidelining himself even though he was medically cleared by team doctors to play.

“I’m not a selfish guy at all, but having this injury and knowing what I had to go through and knowing that I had to be smart, this is something that I had to be selfish with,” Rose said. “I couldn’t worry about anyone else but myself and my health.”

Fair enough. Chances are if he returned without feeling 100% ready the Bulls would have still lost to the Heat and maybe would have lost Rose to re-injury in the process too. I say he’s worth the wait.

Rose also talks about being a father for the first time and how it’s changed his life.

“I just wanted to rebuild my leg and be around my son. It’s a time where me having a son is huge for me. It’s real big. My father wasn’t ever in my life, so he’s first now and with anything.”
