Rudy Fernandez wants out of the Blazers organization and the NBA. According to the Oregonian, Fernandez will not report to Trail Blazers training camp this fall and he is prepared to walk away from the two years left on his contract with Portland.
After having back surgery mid-season, Fernandez had his minutes cut and he wasn’t a big fan of that move by head coach Nate McMillan. The Blazers got bounced in the first round of the playoffs and since their season ended. Fernandez and his agent Andy Miller have been vocal about wanting a trade straight outta Portland.
“All I can do now is stand on the rooftop and scream, ‘He’s not coming!’ He’s just not coming back. I’ve made that clear,” Miller said. “I would like to have an amicable divorce.”
Yesterday the NBA had enough of Fernandez and his public trade demands and handed him a $25K for “public statements detrimental to the NBA”. Ideally Fernandez would like to return to Spain where he began his pro career.
