Allen Iverson (@alleniverson) wants back in the NBA and is using Twitter, to let GM’s know that he’s ready for a new role on whatever team will take him.
I want to return to the NBA this season, and help any team that wants me, in any capacity that they feel that I can help. I’m disappointed, and I owe my fans more than what they have seen of me the last couple seasons. However, now that my family is healthy and rock solid, I can concentrate fully on doing what I do best! At the camp, I will help teach kids some of what it takes to be successful in life. On and off the basketball court.
Look, I’ve been an A.I. fan since way back in the day, but until I hear Iverson say that he wants to play for a contender or that he wants to win a ring. I fully expect any GM’s ‘answer’ to be NO if they are approached in signing the former MVP. Veteran players that mention words like ‘ring” or ‘contender’ are really saying “hey, sign me and I’ll come of the bench if necessary and I won’t be a problem”. That’s cool.
Dudes that start mentioning fans, legacy and skills before playing game one with their future team usually are only interested in one thing, and that’s proving critics wrong every night. At 35 years old, that’s not a good thing.
Iverson has no clue that nobody wants to see him score a zillion points with a team headed nowhere anymore and that if he won a championship, all of his critics would have to eat their words about him. Let’s see how this one plays out.
