The same New Jersey Nets team that finished with an awful 12-70 record this season will have former Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson as their bench boss for the upcoming 2010-2011 season — wherever they decide to play.
“We are very pleased to welcome Avery as the new head coach of the Nets,” New Jersey president Rod Thorn said in a statement.
“He has enjoyed success in this league as both a player and head coach, and we feel that he possesses all of the characteristics … that are necessary for us to be a championship contender in the years to come.”
In 2006, Johnson guided the Mavericks to the NBA finals and left coaching with a win-loss record of 194-70. Since that time, he has been over annunciating words for ESPN as an analyst. Congrats AJ!
