Rasheed Wallace is Rasheed Wallace and that includes a lot of things. On the down side it includes technicals, attitude and at this point age. However on the upside, it also includes one of the highest basketball IQ’s in the game, unlimited range to stretch the court and cagey defence.Â
At the beginning of the season, the plan was to re-signRasheed Wallace as a backup, at a reduced salary, for another two seasons. That’s probably not going to happen. The Pistons put up with Wallace’s distractions, tantrums, and taking nights off during the regular season (and playoffs) because his production in the end always trumped the indiscretions. The production-to-indiscretion ratio is no longer in the team’s favor. At 34, Wallace has legs that are spent. He isn’t the same disruptive defensive force he used to be. He can’t close out on the perimeter and get back to his man in the post. He can’t protect the lane, and his offense has grown more inefficient each season. It’s been an enchanting, at times enraging, but nevertheless unforgettable six-year run.
Dear Joe Dumars, it’s really more than a website and it’s the truth. Their is always a need for Sheed! Just sign the guy and turn him into an assistant coach in a few years, and you can thank me later. I’ll except “thankment” in free season tickets for the great tip, because my girlfriend just loves her some Pistons basketball.
