The chances of a repeat in Boston were dealt a huge blow today, as it was revealed that Kevin Garnett might miss the entire playoffs with a still very wonky right knee.
“Paul Pierce said today that he prepared himself for the worst – a Kevin Garnett playoff scratch – “10 or 12 games ago.†The Celtics captain, then, was prepared for the news this morning when Doc Rivers, after watching Garnett attempt to run during an early workout, told KG to stop.
The next time anyone sees Garnett in a Celtics uniform is likely to be next season, courtesy of a swollen tendon in his right knee that refuses to heal. […] Based on what he saw this morning, though, Rivers knew that journey wouldn’t start with Garnett. Though the Celtics coach said a slight chance remains for a Garnett return if the Celtics go deep enough in the playoffs, he’s not counting on it.
“After two steps,†Rivers said of how quickly he could tell that something was wrong with Garnett this morning. “I saw him last week and he looked great, but this was much worse. They’re still doing treatment on him, but it doesn’t look good. “You could see his face, and he was trying to mask that there was so much pain, but then he had to stop. You can’t mask that. The medical staff will continue to do their treatment, but right now this is it. “He’s out. It’s not official, but it’s official as far as I’m concerned. He looked better last week than he did today. This came out of left field, honestly, but he’s done everything he can to try and get back on the floor.â€
Not being able to help his team out has got to be tearing up Garnett, being the extreme competitor he is. Hopefully, he’ll be able to make it back sooner than later, but all of a sudden the Chicago Bulls have just become a very dangerous team that can smell blood.
If you though Atlanta versus Boston last year was good, wait until this bad boy starts! I promise you, it’ll be sick!!!
