Roy Tarpley was the seventh pick in the 1986 NBA draft out of Michigan, played for the Mavs until 1991 and was kicked out of the NBA for using cocaine. He then played in Greece, made a comeback to the NBA in 1994 with the Mavs signing a six-year, $20 million deal and promptly screwed up again, and was banned from the NBA again in 1995. Some how it’s the Mavericks fault though.
Former NBA player Roy Tarpley settled a federal lawsuit against the NBA and the Dallas Mavericks in which he claimed the league and the team violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by refusing to reinstate him after a ban for drug use.
Tarpley, now 44, filed the lawsuit in September 2007, arguing that the league and team discriminated against him on the basis of his disability as a recovering drug and alcohol abuser.
Since when did being a cokehead become a disability? That’s all I wanna know.
