Sidney Moncrief is the latest coach who’s tried to unlock the Warriors’ free-throw shooting potential. What makes him different is that he might be the first in a long while who succeeds. Under Moncrief’s tutelage, the Warriors are shooting 73.7 percent from the foul line. That ranks only 21st in the league, but it represents a 2.0 percent jump on last season (when they ranked 26th) and puts the team on pace for its second-highest free-throw percentage since 1996-97. (In 2002-03, they hit 77.8 percent of the time.) And after Moncrief was made full time in early December, the Warriors have shot 77.8 percent. That figure would rank sixth out of 30 NBA teams.
