With the exception of the scary injury Marquis Daniels received recently, his life pretty much mirrors a game of Grand Theft Auto, or at least it seems like it in his hip-hop video “Kome here Nikki.” It stars Daniels aka “Q6″ and his partner in rhyme Dee Boi, running through the streets of Orlando causing havoc with GTA plots, fonts, life meters and scores to make it practically Vice City all over again, but Tommy Vercetti could never flow like “Player 3″ son!
As it turns out, thankfully Marquis Daniels is going to be alright after a scary injury against the Orlando Magic had his family, team and fans concerned as he laid face down motionless on the court with a bruised spinal cord injury during Sunday’s game.
According to Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald, Celtics GM Danny Ainge expects Daniels to be back with the C’s in about 1-2 months from now, after he’s recovered and observed by team doctors. But other than that, Daniels is expected to make a full recovery.
“I saw him at the hospital,” said Ainge. “I think he was scared when he was out on the court, because he couldn’t move for a short period of time, so that scared him. But he’s had some issues with this before — some tingling in his body and arms. He had it last year in Orlando in Game 5. He’s had a couple of episodes throughout his career.”
Good to hear he’ll be okay! The injury occurred in the second quarter of the Magic vs. Celtics game when Daniels collided awkwardly into Gilbert Arenas and had his neck snap back. Get well Mr. Daniels!
The Boston Celtics have re-signed swingman Marquis Daniels. The team announced Monday that it had signed the 6-foot-6 Daniels after his disappointing first season with the club. The seven-year veteran missed 28 games with a torn ligament in his left thumb that required surgery and averaged a career-low 5.6 points in 51 games.
In the Celtics’ last 25 games, Daniels sat out two, scored two points seven times and was held scoreless six times.
He played in only 11 of the team’s 24 playoff games and just two of the seven games for a total of 4 minutes, 21 seconds in the NBA finals won by the Los Angeles Lakers. In 2008-09 he averaged career-highs of 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in 54 games with the Indiana Pacers.
The Celtics took care of the Orlando Magic last night and its now clear who won the arms race in the east. This summer, the Cavaliers loaded up with hopes of righting wrongs signing Shaq, Antawn Jamison and Anthony Parker and the C’s beat them in the eastern semi-finals.
While the Magic picked up Brandon Bass, Jason Williams and Vince Carter to secure a trip back to the finals and the C’s stomped them out for good last night in game 5 of the eastern conference finals 84-96.
At first it didn’t seem like added Nate Robinson and Rasheed Wallace would put the Celtics back in the NBA finals, but ‘Sheed has proven his worth down the stretch in the tournament and Nate Robinson delivered big time last night with 13 key points off the bench and a ton of much-needed energy.
“It happened the last game,” Rivers said of his decision to give Robinson expanded minutes. “He gave me the confidence when he came into Game 5. Even though we played awful, you could see he had bought into our defensive system, and he was able to run a couple of sets we thought would be effective against them.”
This will mark the 21st time the Celtics played in the NBA finals and if they win it all, it would mark their 18th championship in franchise history. Boston last won the O’Brien Trophy in 2008, defeating the Lakers in six games ending a 22-year championship drought.
Blogs are the new mainstream media, the Toyota Prius is the new Hummer, Jason of Beverly Hills is the new Jacob the Jeweler, and an iced out Marqius Daniels piece is the new iced out Jesus piece. At least for Marquis Daniels, his phat pockets — and the bodyguards he’ll need to keep this thing around his neck.

Boston Celtics guard Marquis Daniels has had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb. The team announced that the procedure was performed Wednesday by Drs. Brian McKeon and Drew Terrono at New England Baptist Hospital. No timetable has been set for his return.
The 6-foot-6 Daniels signed with the Celtics this summer after three years with the Indiana Pacers. He is averaging 5.7 points, 2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19 games this season.
In Boston  the whole is greater than the sum of the individual parts and by landing swingman Marquis Daniels as a back up that truth remains the same.
Free-agent guard Marquis Daniels has committed to signing with the Celtics, according to a league source. Daniels, 28, will receive the biannual exception contract worth $1.9 million, unless a sign-and-trade deal can be worked out with his former team, the Pacers.
Daniels, expected to be used as a backup for Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, averaged 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds last season for Indiana.
Acquiring Daniels is one of those small things smart teams do, that end up making a difference late in the season and I really like this move. If the Celtics can stay healthy and finish with home court advantage in the early rounds of the eastern conference playoffs, tings can gwaan!
