The Nuggets were high on high-flying dunker James White, but he ultimately couldn’t get ahead of Joey Graham and couldn’t get on the court in the preseason, and so Denver waived White today.

White averaged 7.3 points per game in the preseason, but he didn’t play in recent games, not even in Denver’s Tuesday blowout against Minnesota.

It appears the Nuggets’ roster is now set with 13 players, heading into the season opener Oct. 28.

The Nuggets acquired swingman James White from the Houston Rockets in exchange for the draft rights to forward Axel Hervelle, a 2005 pick who has yet to play in the NBA.

White has an average of 5.7 points and 2.0 rebounds in 10 career games with San Antonio and Houston.

Originally drafted by Portland in 2006, White played 34 games last season with Anaheim of the NBA Development League, where he averaged 25.9 points, before being called up by the Rockets on March 3. He averaged 1.8 points in four regular season games with Houston and 1.4 points in five playoff appearances.

Hervelle played in Spain last year, averaging 8.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in 45 games for Real Madrid.

James White is movin’ on up the Houston Rockets after playing some great basketball with the Anaheim Arsenal of the NBDL. 

“The Houston Rockets have agreed to sign guard/forward James White for the rest of this year and for the 2009-2010 season.”He will sign the contract (Monday) and the deal includes next year as well,” said Bill McCandless, White’s agent.The club had signed White to a pair of 10-day contracts.
