Maggette Signs With Warriors

Hooped Up | July 9, 2008

Okay, if you are Baron Davis you have fully “chucked biscuits”, after hearing the Warriors his old team has signed Corey Maggette to complete the gutting of the Clippers for another year.

In another deal today, former Clipper Corey Maggette reached agreement to join the Golden State Warriors in a five-year deal worth about $50 million, according to NBA sources who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak about player movements. Maggette also opted out of the last year of his Clippers contract last week.

Can the Clippers make another big free-agency splash to help Baron Davis?  Or do they even want to?

Spurs Making A Run At Magette Again?

Hooped Up | July 3, 2008

All of a sudden Corey Magettte is the prettiest girl at the high school dance.  The latest team looking to court the swingman is the San Antonio Spurs.  My question is, why don’t the Clippers just become apart of the NBDL farm system.  I know Baron Davis is on board but, this club is always hemorrhaging young talent over and over again.

Two seasons after the Spurs unsuccessfully tried to trade for Corey Maggette, they appear to be trying to recruit him. According to two NBA sources, one in the Western Conference and one in the East, the Spurs are preparing to make an offer to Maggette, who became an unrestricted free agent Tuesday when he opted out of the final year of his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Celtics Extend Offer To Maggette

Hooped Up | July 2, 2008

On the first day of free agency in the NBA, the world champion Celtics, according to an NBA source, made contract offers to both Posey and Maggette. Since Boston, at most, has a mid-level exception available (expected to be about $5.8 million), it would seem doubtful they could land both players. Boston is also scheduled have New Orleans center Chris Andersen in for a visit today.

“I called [Posey] and just talked to him and told him how much we wanted him back,” Ainge said. “I told his agent and we had a conversation. So we’re still having conversations. After James, yeah, I called a lot of guys just to say that we had interest. But I can’t discuss names.”

Maggette, however, confirmed yesterday he was one of those names.

“I was very surprised they called. They just came off a championship,” said Maggette in a phone interview.

Brand and Maggette Opt Out

Hooped Up | July 1, 2008

Elton Brand and Corey Maggette have told the Los Angeles Clippers they will opt of the final year of their contracts and become free agents.

“We have been notified by Elton Brand and Corey Maggette of each player’s decision to opt out of his respective contract,” Clippers president Andy Roeser said Monday in a statement. “On Monday night, when NBA rules permit, we will be aggressive in contacting them to address our interest in having them remain with the Clippers. We will also be active in contacting other free agents in whom we have interest.”

Maggette Would Welcome A Return To Orlando

Hooped Up | June 30, 2008

This is not really news because who wants to play for the Clippers, if they plan on winning while they are playing in the NBA.  Corey Maggette is the latest Clipper that might be on his way out of losing land. Seriously the Clippers make a strong case for a relegation system in the NBA.

Los Angeles Clippers guard Corey Maggette told friends over the weekend that he was encouraging the Orlando Magic to make a competitive offer in free agency, allowing him to return to the team where he started his NBA career nine years ago. Maggette, 28, averaged 22.1 points last season for the Clippers, where he has spent the last eight seasons as a shooting guard/small forward.

Where Is Maggette Going?

Hooped Up | January 14, 2008

By deciding to opt out, Maggette would become an unrestricted free agent and would be walking away from a guaranteed $7 million for the final year of his six-year contract. The Clippers, however, seem confident that they can sign Maggette to a new multiyear deal. “My answer is the same as it was in the fall,” team president Andy Roeser said. “We expect to be able to re-sign him, when the time comes.”
