The Lakers Visit The White House

Hooped Up | January 25, 2010

One of the biggest benefits of winning an NBA championship last year, is the obligatory visit to the White House to meet the President the this year. Especially if the President in office is Barack Obama and not that other guy that use to “run things” before.

Being a huge hoops fan, Barack Obama was probably the first President to actually watch the playoffs and finals with interest and he commended the defending champion Lakers on defeated Orlando in last year’s NBA Finals for their 15th NBA title. When they visited the White House to meet me.

“Nobody exemplifies excellence in basketball better than the Los Angeles Lakers,” Obama said. “I want to congratulate everybody who helped make this team what it is, from the assistants to the front office staff to the trainers and the ticket-takers, all the fans back in LA who bleed purple and gold. You all should be very proud.”

The President also commended the Lakers on their efforts to help earthquake victims in Haiti.

See video of the Lakers visit to the White House after the jump.

Sebastian Telfair Out Four To Six Weeks

Hooped Up | January 23, 2010

The Clippers will have to do without Sebastian Telfair for the next four to six weeks after he was diagnosed with a torn right adductor longus muscle, suffered in the Clippers’ victory over Chicago on Wednesday. To help fill the void in the LA backcourt, the Clips signed JamesOnCurry straight outta the D-League, to a 10-day contract and waived injured guard Kareem Rush according to the LA Times.

“JamesOn has been a proven scorer at the college and NBDL levels and has shown consistent improvement in his ability to run a team.” said Clippers GM Neil Olshey.

Curry is slated to make his Clippers debut in Washington D.C. on Sunday against the Wizards after his team visits the White House and President Barack Obama.

LeBron Would Love To Dunk On George Bush

Hooped Up | October 22, 2009

If there was ever a time that a three-way call between Barack Obama, Don King and LeBron James needed to happen, it’s now to set up a LeBron James dunking on George W. Bush pay-per-view event. The public demands it!

Maxim magazine recently asked James, “If there was one guy on the planet you could dunk on, who would it be?” His response might produce as much reaction on Capitol Hill as on the basketball court. ”If it doesn’t have to be a basketball player, George W. Bush,” James said. “I would dunk on [him], break the rim and shatter the glass.”

Since George Bush has already plundered the universes resources, I doubt he needs the extra pay-per-view bucks. At best maybe we’ll get an Undrcrwn artist rendition of the event, but that would be pretty cool too.

Served: WNBA Haters Get Got By Sylvia Fowles

Hooped Up | July 31, 2009

Like it our not, the WNBA is in full effect and not even Moses could stop it.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate the WNBA. I actually have a lot of respect for the league and its players because some of these ladies are sick ballers! It’s just that I’d rather watch an NBA game instead, okay Alice. Speaking of sick lady ballers, Sylvia Fowles is 6′5″ has better hops than Yao Ming and she put them to good use becoming the third WNBA player to dunk in an all star game, following Michelle Snow in 2006 and Lisa Leslie in 2005.That’s pretty frickin’ cool!

WNBA haters, you have been served!

Since I’m on a WNBA tip today, check out this great article by Ben York about why you shouldn’t hate on the WNBA, see who from the WNBA is on Twitter here and watch the 2008 WNBA Champion Detroit Shock’s visit the White House and President Obama after the jump.

Obama Picks The Lakers In Six

Hooped Up | June 3, 2009

The Orlando Magic probably have an us against the world mentality going up against the favored Lakers in the finals. Well, today President Barack Obama confirmed that belief should include the government too.

“On his way to the Marine One helicopter on the South Lawn on Tuesday when a reporter shouted a question. The topic: Who is going to win the NBA championship, the Los Angeles Lakers or the Orlando Magic?

Said the smiling president: “Lakers in six, I think.” In sports terms, that means the Lakers will win the best-of-seven series in six games. The series begins Thursday.”

In short, what The President is saying is that the Lakers are going to go Obama versus McCain on the Magic. However, if the Lakers sweep the Magic, then it would be more like Obama versus Clinton.

Obama Talks Draft Picks With The Maloof’s

Hooped Up | May 28, 2009

Sacramento actually has options in this years thin draft with the fourth pick and while rubbing elbows with the my homie (on Twitter) and should be Bulls GM  Barack Obama at a function in Las Vegas. They Maloof’s asked the President who they should select to help the Kings next season.

“Phil asked him who we (the Maloof-owned Sacramento Kings) should take in the NBA draft,” George Maloof said. “He liked Blake Griffin, of course; (Hasheem) Thabeetfrom Connecticut and he loved the kid from Memphis – Tyreke Evans,” the consensus national freshman of the year choice.”

Don’t worry tax paying complainer guy, I’m sure the conversation eventually drifted over to the North Korea situation, but I’m sure it was brief since it goes without saying that Kim Jong-il is a crazy bastard.

Outlet: Gil’s Ready, Re-Signing Rudy + Baracket Obama

Hooped Up | March 20, 2009

The status of three-time all-star Gilbert Arenas hovers over just about everything the team does. Arenas did not travel with the team on the current road trip and continues to work out at Verizon Center but has yet to decide whether he is going to play before the end of the season. A source close to Arenas indicated yesterday that he is in the process of making a decision and has not ruled out a return. Following tomorrow night’s game at Phoenix, the Wizards will have 11 games remaining. Arenas has practiced with the team off and on since Feb. 16 and declared his surgically repaired left knee at “full strength” on Feb. 23.

Beer, Basketball And Obama, My Favorite Things Meet

Hooped Up | March 2, 2009

The Chicago Bulls are terrible and the Washington Wizards are worse! But when the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama shows up courtside at the Verizon Center to watch them battle. It becomes a historic match up and future Jeopardy question.

Until February 27, 2009, it was 10 years since the last time a President was in attendance for an NBA game. It was also the first time somebody drank an actual glass of beer at a game since probably — ever. Obama received a standing ovation as he entered the arena, delaying the start of the 113-90 thumping his hometown Bulls eventually received and left a few minutes early like any regular fan on the wrong side of a blowout would.

This guy is too awesome!!!
