Biedrins Will Undergo Surgery

Hooped Up | March 9, 2010

The Golden State Warriors say center Andris Biedrins will need to undergo surgery to repair a small tear of an abdominal muscle.

Biedrins was examined Monday by a specialist in Philadelphia who confirmed that he had a sports hernia and the muscle tear. Biedrins will undergo surgery Tuesday. The prognosis for his recovery will be determined after the operation.

Biedrins is averaging 5.0 points and 7.8 rebounds in 33 games this season. If he does not return this season, his 16 percent free throw shooting (4-for-25) would be the worst in NBA history for a player with at least 20 attempts. Read More »

Homer News: Golden State Warriors (15-38)

Hooped Up | February 18, 2010

Golden State Warriors rout Sacramento Kings as C.J. Watson scores career-high 40 points
The win, just No. 15 on the season, was comfortably in hand. Yet just before the Warriors’ 130-98 win over the Sacramento Kings was complete, every player on the bench — including all of the injured players, even guard Raja Bell — was on his feet intensely watching.

And when guard C.J. Watson’s circus left-hand layup rolled in, giving him a career-high 40 points, they went bananas. It was a moment that encapsulated why these players are happy the team is unlikely to make a trade by today’s noon deadline.

“Things are feeling good,” said rookie guard Stephen Curry. “You can tell. Everybody’s smiling, having fun. … Hopefully this whole unit’s going to be back next year.”

Biedrins Re-Injures Back

Hooped Up | November 9, 2009

Center Andris Biedrins apparently is going to miss more playing time. He returned to the lineup Sunday, which probably wasn’t a good idea.Biedrins played 21 minutes, totaling two points and six rebounds before leaving midway through the third quarter. He went to the locker room for treatment and never returned.

“He’s not doing very well,” coach Don Nelson said. “I probably shouldn’t have even played him, but we wanted to have another big guy if we possibly could. He couldn’t do very much when he was out there, and he has re-injured himself. So that was a bad decision on my part.”

Biedrins sat out of a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday after tweaking his back Wednesday against Memphis.

Hooped Up: Golden State Warriors 08-09 Season Preview

Hooped Up | October 28, 2008

A team-by-team preview of all 30 NBA teams heading into the 2008 – 2009 season, Hooped Up style.

Golden State Warriors
Before Monta Ellis caught gnarly road rash in a moped accident, Baron Davis decided to head south to LA, Matt Barnes east to Phoenix, and Mickeal Pietrus south east to Orlando. But they did add Corey Maggette who will be the focus of the team with Ellis on the mend, energy guy Ronny Turiaf and undrafted DeMarcus Nelson. Stephen Jackson should have an even better year then last and will be option number two this go around.

The questions is can the Warriors keep pace long enough to stay relevant with the rest of the west until  Monta Eliis comes back?

Projected Starters: PG - Monta Ellis / SG - Stephen Jackson / SF - Corey Maggette / PF - Al Harrington / C - Andris Biedrins

Additions: Corey Maggette, Ronny Turiaf, Marcus Williams, DeMarcus Nelson, Anthony Morrow, Dion Dowell, Rob Kurz

Losses: Baron Davis, Matt Barnes, Mickael Pietrus, Patrick O’Bryant, Kosta Perovic, Austin Croshere

Projected Wins: 35+

Team Theme Song:  The Pharcyde – Runnin’
Even without Monta Ellis at the point, this ball club will be runnin’ every chance they get!

Overall
Stephen Jackson and Corey Maggette will headline this group until Monta Ellis returns and Marco Belinelli and Kelenna Azibuike will have a chance to contribute off the bench. Al Harrington will be a match up advantage at the forward spot and Andris Biedrins will be an efficient force in the interior.  DeMarcus Nelson has been named the starting point until Ellis returns but, this might not be enough to weather the storm in the west.

The playoffs look out of reach but, with a young team like there’s time for minor set backs.

Biedrins Signs Six-Year Deal

Hooped Up | July 28, 2008

The Warriors completed their mission of retaining their top two young players by reaching an agreement with Andris Biedrins on a six-year, $63 million deal Sunday. The Warriors had signed Monta Ellis, 22, on Thursday to a six-year, $67 million deal, and now they have come to terms with Biedrins, 22, avoiding a negotiations competition with some European clubs that showed interest in the 6-foot-11 center. Biedrins flew to the Bay Area on Sunday night, according to his agent Bill Duffy, and plans to sign the contract today.
