Is Ron Gone?

Hooped Up | June 30, 2008

Say what you will of Ron-Ron but, there are a lot of teams that could really use his services in the league.  Ask the Lakers how good Ron Artest would have looked in a Lakers jersey in the Finals. He’s a lock down perimiter defender, a proven scorer and as of tonight possibly a free agent.

Ron Artest either will be in the final season of his contract with the Kings or an intriguing member of the free-agent market. The decision is his until the deadline passes, just as it has been since the season ended. Though the prospect of Artest opting out remains unlikely, the uncertainty remains until it’s official. Artest is in the driver’s seat for one more day, and Petrie is stuck without a steering wheel.

Artest Staying Put?

Hooped Up | June 18, 2008

Ron Artest looks like he is staying in Sacramento after all, at least for now.

Sacramento Kings forward Ron Artest, attending Tuesday night’s Game 6 of the NBA Finals, told ESPN.com that he’s “99 percent sure I won’t opt out of my contract” this month to become a free agent July 1. Although he left that one-percent sliver of wiggle room, Artest has been insisting for weeks that he wants to play out the final season of his contract with the Kings — at nearly $8 million — before thinking about free agency. He has also expressed hope that Sacramento will consider a contract extension, but the Kings have yet to show a willingness to go that route.

I still think Ron-Ron would be just what the Knicks need.

Consistent Kevin

Hooped Up | April 4, 2008

For more than a month, Kevin Martin’s output has been consistent no matter the opponent. His surge began Feb. 29 following a week of frustration between him and Reggie Theus, and just before they collaborated as never before. After Martin’s 22 minutes against Atlanta capped a week in which he struggled with his production and some inexplicably long absences from the floor, Theus asked Martin to provide a list of requests that would help his play and his happiness level.

Bibby To Hawks, No Bird Rights In Sight

Hooped Up | February 16, 2008

The Atlanta Hawks have agreed to acquire veteran point guard Mike Bibby from the Sacramento Kings.

Hawks owner Michael Gearon Jr. says the Hawks are to send four players to the Kings. Among them are 2007 first-round pick Shelden Williams and starting point guard Anthony Johnson.

The Hawks also would send guard Tyronn Lue and veteran forward-center Lorenzen Wright to the Kings.

The Kings Dancers In Hot Water

Hooped Up |

After the internet exploded with the pictures of the Kings Dancers partying. It is not a secret how the Kings dancers get down on a Friday night. The Sacramento Bee has picked up the story, and it looks like it might be a PR nightmare on the horizon for the franchise. As Felipe Gomez from Three’s Company would say “Chaam, Chaam, Chaam”.

Have a look at what it’s like to be a Kings dancer on a weekend here. You will probably be a Kings fan after this post, even if you are Ron Artest. Have a look at the wallpapers for Becca, Candace, Camille, Carly, Katie, and Krystal. (SFW)

Artest Sees The End

Hooped Up | February 5, 2008

It’s unclear whether Ron Artest no longer wants to be in Sacramento or if he feels unwanted. Yet with the Feb. 21 trade deadline approaching, the Kings’ small forward continues to make it clear that he sees the end in sight. Asked after Monday’s practice about first-year coach Reggie Theus and the job he’s done this season, Artest – who said last week that he didn’t see himself in the Kings’ long-term plans – said Theus and his team would be better off without him.

Bibby’s Stock Rising

Hooped Up | January 28, 2008

Sacramento point guard Mike Bibby: His stock is rising now that he’s back from a thumb surgery and showing signs of his old self. In his first six games, Bibby averaged 14.7 points, knocking down 48 percent of his 3-pointers, and 4.0 assists per contest. Teams desperate for a scoring guard, especially at the point, such as Cleveland and Charlotte, might want to sweeten their offer to Sacramento.
