The Top 5 Hottest ESPY NBA WAG’s

Hooped Up | July 18, 2008

This week the 2008 ESPY awards took place and a bunch of winners won stuff.  The only requirement to win an ESPY is to have won crap prior to getting there that season or last.  Other than that, it’s really a big highlight show with celebrities and red carpet.  Pretty boring stuff.

So in this edition of 5ives, Hooped Up ranks the Top 5 Hottest NBA WAG’s in attendance at the 2008 ESPY awards.

Nash To Make Film About Terry Fox

Hooped Up | July 17, 2008

Steve Nash, a two-time NBA MVP and graduate of Victoria’s St. Michaels University School, is about to make a film about Terry Fox.

Nash’s film will be broadcast on ESPN as part of the U.S. cable channel’s 30/30 film initiative. The showcase will feature 30 one-hour films by 30 different filmmakers on 30 different subjects from the past 30 years in sports.

Fox, role model to an entire generation of Canadians and a tireless fundraiser for cancer research, died in 1981 after his cancer returned during his Marathon of Hope run across Canada.

Nash said Fox, of Port Coquitlam, has been an inspiration to him through his own life and career.

Lue Expected To Sign With Suns

Hooped Up | July 10, 2008

Disarmed of money to offer and without much of a 2008 playoff pedigree, the Suns appear to still have recruiting wherewithal with free-agency target Tyronn Lue, who said he expects to sign with the Suns. “I think we’re going to get it done in Phoenix,” Lue said Wednesday. Signing Lue, 31, would fill the Suns’ free-agency priority. Suns General Manager Steve Kerr has said he wanted a veteran point guard to back up Steve Nash and start about 12 games to rest Nash, 34.

Pick Up Soccer Game Stars: Steve Nash, Baron Davis, Thierry Henry and Steve McManaman

Hooped Up | June 24, 2008

Several NBA players, and some of the best soccer players on the planet — will be playing a soccer game tomorrow afternoon in New York City to raise money for charity.

It’s free and open to the public. It will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Nike Field in Sara D. Roosevelt Park. The game is just off Chrystie Street (between Rivington and Stanton Streets) south of Houston.

Among those expected to participate are Baron Davis, Jason Kidd, Raja Bell, Leandro Barbosa, Joakim Noah, Thierry Henry, Claudio Reyna, Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman, Jozy Altidore, Juan Pablo Angel, and Gregg Berhalter.

What Stein’s story does not mention, however, is that Marc Stein himself will be playing. He’s a die-hard soccer fan who plays regularly.

He has a tactic in mind to look good in such a high-level game: Stay close to the NBA players like Kidd and Davis who did not grow up with the sport.

Davis, however, reportedly wants to get around his inexperience with his feet by playing goalie.

Shaq Attacks Kobe: You Ruined My Marriage!

Hooped Up |

I guess old beefs die hard.  Shaquille O’Neal had a few choice words for ex-Laker team mate Kobe Bryant in freestyle form at a NYC night club.  The “Kobe tell me how my ass taste” line is wack as hell but, as long as Kazaam 2 doesn’t surface, corny Kobe dis tracks are alright by me.

Oh ya, the Vasectomy bit…way to much information Shaq.

Amaré Off USA Roster

Hooped Up | June 20, 2008

Amaré Stoudemire has pulled out of being possibly selected for the USA Basketball Olympic roster.

Jerry Colangelo, managing director for the USA Basketball senior men’s national team, said today that Stoudemire is not on the 12-man Olympic roster that will be announced Monday in Chicago.

“Amaré has pulled himself out of consideration for the roster and that’s predicated on, despite the fact that he’s had an injury-free year coming back (from knee surgeries in 2005 and 2006), he’s a little hesitant on pushing the envelope too hard,” Colangelo said.
