Warriors Offer Brand $90 Million Deal

Hooped Up | July 2, 2008

The Clippers lured away the Warriors best player.

Now Golden State is hoping to return the favor.

Flush with cap space after Davis’ sudden exit, the Warriors have offered free agent Elton Brand a five-year deal worth between $85 and $90 million, according to league source.

Brand, like Davis, opted out of the final year of his contract just before Monday’s deadline, giving up a guaranteed $16.4 million for next season

Baron Davis Opts Out Of Contract With Warriors

Hooped Up | July 1, 2008

Golden State point guard Baron Davis elected to become a free agent Monday night, opting out of the final year of his contract with the Warriors in a surprise move.

Davis had until Monday night to decide whether to turn down his $17.8 million contract for next season, the final year of a six-year deal. The Warriors didn’t expect him to opt out of the deal despite little progress in the parties’ long-term contract negotiation, but club spokesman Raymond Ridder said they received a letter from Davis’ agent, Todd Ramasar, late Monday indicating his intentions.

Davis still could return to Golden State as a free agent, but his opt-out clause was his only bit of leverage in forcing contract talks with the Warriors before next summer. The former All-Star also is now free to negotiate with other clubs, possibly facilitating a sign-and-trade deal with Golden State.

Knicks Owner Maybe Forced Out Of NHL

Hooped Up | June 21, 2008

The Dolans/Cablevision who own Madison Square Garden, the New York Knicks and New York Rangers could be forced out by the NHL. If a judge decides it had no right to file an anti-trust lawsuit against the league it’s bye, bye Cablevision.

MSG sued the league seeking to gain control of the team’s website and other promotions in violation of NHL rules, arguing that the league bylaws violate U.S. anti-trust regulations.

The league argued in its countersuit that MSG had no right to take legal action against it.

“When MSG was accepted as a member in the league it agreed to abide by the NHL Constitution and related rules, policies and resolutions,” the commissioner’s letter filed in court papers in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

“In seeking a judicial declaration that several league rules and practices are unlawful under antitrust laws, MSG has materially breached those covenants,”

Reuters

If they sell the Rangers they can concentrate on destroying the Knicks year round…not good.

Baron Davis Builds Good Karma

Hooped Up | June 17, 2008

See what happens when Baron Davis walks the streets of the Bay Area practicing random acts of kindness. Will hilarity ensue? Will people ask “what up with Teri Hatcher?” Or will he dunk on somebody baseline? Watch and find out.

I only wish Baron Davis was doing this in my area while I was paying my student loan.

Warriors Want Yi

Hooped Up | June 6, 2008

The Bucks have decided they have to much young talent and they might win games in the future.  To remedy this they are looking to rebuild a loser to please the people of Milwaukee.  Already, looking to get rid of Michael Redd the Bucks might part with Yi Jianlian for the right offer and the Warriors are looking to cash in.

The team was shocked that the Bucks, for whom Yi refused to work out, took him at No. 6. The Bobcats took Brandan Wright and traded him to Golden State. While Wright played well for the Warriors toward the end of the season, they still covet Yi, according to sources. If the Warriors were to offer Wright and the No. 14 pick for Yi, that might be too much for the Bucks to pass on. The team is in rebuilding mode and might be ready to accept a two-for-one deal.

Everybody in the west knows the the best shot at playing for a ring is by moving east.

There is little doubt that the Knicks will shop for a point guard this summer, but at least one has come shopping for them. According to a person with knowledge of the situation, the Warriors’ Baron Davis has made inquiries into the interest of certain teams around the league, including the Knicks.

Baron Davis Contract Issues

Hooped Up | May 11, 2008

B Diddy is getting no love with the Warriors these days.  If I were him I would look at it as a blessing and move my game to the east were 48 wins is a playoff lock.

According to a source with knowledge of extension negotiations between Baron Davis and Warriors management, the Warriors are playing hardball with their star point guard. President Rowell and VP Mullin came at Baron with an “insulting” offer - so much so that B. Diddy is questioning whether the Warriors view him as their franchise player.
