Noah To Get Charges Dropped

Hooped Up | May 30, 2008

Once again it pays to be rich and stupid!  I don’t know why these “punishments” are even released to the public to show how bad the legal system is.  Joakim Noah should just pay this in pennies to make this more exciting.

Joakim Noah could have charges for possession of marijuana and drinking from an open container dropped, according to The Chicago Sun-Times.

Florida’s attorney office in Gainesville and Noah’s representatives reached terms on a deferred prosecution agreement on Wednesday.

“This is a program we have for first-time offenders charged with misdemeanors,” a representative from the office said.

Under terms of the deal, Noah must pay $50 for the cost of prosecution and make a $150 donation to Project Payback, a local charity. If he doesn’t violate any federal, state, or local laws in the next six months the charges will be dropped.

“Once you’ve completed the process, we drop the charges and complete the case,” the representative said. “It remains open until then.”

Alligator

What a joke, he might as well do this every six months.

Floppers Beware

Hooped Up | May 30, 2008

The NBA announced to its teams this week at its annual pre-draft camp that fines will be imposed on players starting next season for clear cases of “flopping,“ ESPN.com has learned. The league office has yet to determine exact fine amounts for offending flops and how fines might escalate for repeat offenders, but in-game arena observers and video reviewers will be instructed to report instances of theatrical flopping for potential punishment as part of postgame reports on officiating and other matters.

Rasheed Fined $25K

Hooped Up | May 30, 2008

Rasheed Wallace of the Detroit Pistons has been fined $25,000 for his use of profanity and criticism of the officiating following last night’s game, announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

Wallace made his comments to the media following the Pistons’ 106-102 loss to the Celtics in Game 5 of the 2008 NBA Eastern Conference Finals in Boston.

Doug Collins To Be Named Bulls Head Coach

Hooped Up | May 29, 2008

When I see a move like this, I can’t help but think the Bulls are going to tear the current roster up.

Doug Collins will become the next Bulls head coach, according to a source.

The source said the deal is expected to be announced “sooner rather than later.”

“I know Doug’s got the itch [to coach again],” a league source said. “I think the Bulls’ youth intrigues Doug more than the Phoenix [Suns] situation. He’s a teacher That’s what he likes to do.

“He might have been leery about the veterans on the Suns, including Shaq.”

Rasheed Keeps It Real Baby

Hooped Up | May 29, 2008

Now one technical foul from suspension, Rasheed Wallace keeps it real about his thoughts on Game 5 when asked.

“All that [expletive] calls they had out there, with Mike [Callahan] and Kenny [Mauer] — you’ve all seen that [expletive],” Rasheed Wallace spewed afterwards. “A lot of them phantom calls, cats are flopping and falling all over the floor and they’re calling that [expletive]. That [expletive] ain’t basketball out there. It’s all [expletive] entertainment. You all should know that [expletive]. It’s all that [expletive] entertainment.” Perhaps Wallace was peeved about being a technical foul away from facing a one-game suspension. Or maybe Wallace was just ticked off about how the game was called down the stretch, when the Celtics attempted 25 free throws in the second half.

If the Pistons are down late in Game 6, look for Rasheed to pick up a tech and get his moneys.

Reporter Cussed Out By Vanessa Bryant

Hooped Up | May 29, 2008

Vanessa wears some ballet / lauper gear when Kobe accepts his MVP award and expects nobody to say a word.

Laura Lane covers the Lakers for ESPN.com. She wrote a mildly invasive item about that weird purple tutu thing that Vanessa Bryant wore on the floor the night Kobe picked up his MVP award. Then after game 2 of the San Antonio series, Lane was leaving the Lakers locker room when Vanessa lit into her. Lane attributes it in part to the “rumors” of Kobe bonking one of the Laker Girls — “a hotter version of his wife who is also named Vanessa” — who has suddenly vanished from the squad.

Hooped Up | May 29, 2008

The Hawks have finally found their General Manager.

The Hawks have reached an agreement with former Seattle general manager Rick Sund, who will be announced Wednesday afternoon as the team’s new general manager. The hiring of Sund, 56, wraps up a nearly four-week hiring process the Hawks kept under wraps.
