Fight Night At Staples Center

Hooped Up | June 9, 2008

With Euro 2008 here and football madness sweeping the world (yes I said football, not soccer).  After the Celtics sound beating the Lakers. The Lakers fans decided they could get even and beat down some fool guy wearing Celtics garb EPL style.

The only thing good about the ass whooping, is that the Lakers have finally beaten Boston at the Staples Center at something.

Game 3 is tomorrow night.

Garnett Gets NBA 2K9 Cover

Hooped Up | June 8, 2008

Every year it seems that I have the argument about what’s the best basketball game.  Every year it’s the 2k series that takes the cake hands down.  When you actually have to run an offense to score you know it’s real.  Props to 2k for linking Garnett with his first cover. The Beckhams Love Basketball…Cheerleaders

Hooped Up | June 7, 2008

Today Euro 2008 starts today and the English squad is at home watching.  Yet, David Beckham and Posh are more upset that the basketball season is over for the Clippers as you can see from there concentration of the other beautiful game.

Bush Honors Jayhawks

Hooped Up | June 4, 2008

I can’t wait till Obama finally becomes president and then these ceremonies won’t seem so unofficial.  George Bush always has this get me outta here look at these presentations.   Even his daddy didn’t look like such a square at these things.

In a Rose Garden ceremony and an Oval Office tour, President Bush honored the University of Kansas as the 2008 NCAA basketball champions on Tuesday. With a remarkable flourish in the final game, KU pulled out the title for the first time since 1988, when the team was last lauded at the White House.

“You brought new glory to one of our nation’s most storied basketball programs, and you gave your fans all across America one more reason to chant: Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!,” Bush said, using the school’s famous chant to the delight of a loyal Kansas crowd.

Summer Reefer Madness: The Prequel

Hooped Up |

Josh Howard and Joakim Noah should Facebook each other in these crazy high times.

Mark Cuban went on the Dan Patrick Show and was asked whether he cared that Josh Howard smoked pot.

“You know, I’d be a hypocrite if I said yes,” Cuban said. “I’ve inhaled, and when I inhaled, I coughed a couple lungs out. So I was never a big fan of smoking. But if I’ve tried it, I can’t look at somebody and say, ‘How can you try it?’”

The issue really isn’t that J-Ho lights up an occasional off-season blunt, although Cuban acknowledged that such activity did present legal and conditioning concerns. Hey, as Howard said, smoking weed doesn’t make him unique among NBA players.

Summer Reefer Madness

Hooped Up |

Not only is drinking and driving bad because you can kill somebody. You could also spill your drink. You just can teach kids these days. I blame TV, Joakim Noah blames weed.

Bulls center Joakim Noah was arrested in Gainesville, Fla., early Sunday on allegations of possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis and an open-container violation, police said.

Summer Hallett, public information officer for the Gainesville Police Department, confirmed that Gainesville police stopped Noah, 23, about 1:50 a.m. Sunday for carrying a clear plastic cup with an “iced, amber-colored beverage” inside.

Hallett said Noah put down the liquid when confronted by police, who were enforcing the city’s law prohibiting drinking from open containers on public sidewalks.

Hallett said subsequent inspection revealed Noah’s drink to be alcoholic, at which point officers arrested Noah and took him to the department’s downtown annex. A source said Noah was drinking cognac.

Chicago Tribune

If the Bulls management doesn’t want him back he can always play for Mark Cubans Mavericks. This is going to be a great summer for the NBA.

Mary Carey + Booze = Fun

Hooped Up | April 3, 2008

In between games on the road your coach tells you alot of things.  Stay out of trouble, get a goods night rest, eat a good pregame meal and watch out for Mary Carey…huh?

PORN queen Mary Carey may be sober, but she’s still nuts. The buxom blonde, last seen on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab,” was at Butter Monday night, where she danced and did leg kicks in a short, tight black dress. She joined a table of Philadelphia 76ers, who earlier sang karaoke for the crowd at Angels and Kings in the East Village. Carey, who has starred in such skin flicks as “Pervert!” and “Cash and Carey,” cornered one basketball player, wrapped her legs around him and made out with him in front of clubgoers. “She’s 28 days sober!” Carey’s pal told Page Six. Wonder what she was like drunk.

I am sure that no man can derive more pleasure from money or power than I do from seeing
a pair of basketball goals in some out of the way place–deep in the Wisconsin woods
an old barrel hoop nailed to a tree, or a weather-beaten shed on the Mexican border
with a rusty iron hoop nailed to one end.
