Homer News: Boston Celtics (33-18)

Hooped Up | February 17, 2010

Allen is rested – and relaxed
While Allen was resting during All-Star Weekend, the first time he had not participated in the game in seven years, president of basketball operations Danny Ainge was working the phones trying to improve his sagging team, with Allen’s $19.7 million expiring contract an attractive carrot for financially strapped teams seeking salary cap relief next season.

Allen focused on relaxation during a rare midseason vacation. He doted on his family, two little boys and a wife who would be just as affected by a trade as Allen. He has made a home in Boston. He has re-embraced the Northeast after years in Milwaukee and Seattle, and in fewer than 48 hours, he will know whether he will don an unfamiliar jersey with a new number and colors and shoot 3-pointers for his fourth team in 14 seasons.

Shelden Williams Joins The Celtics

Hooped Up | August 3, 2009

Forward Shelden Williams has agreed to a one-year contract with the Celtics, according to an NBA source. Williams is expected to sign a deal worth the veteran’s minimum salary of $1.306 million.

Williams, 25, was the fifth overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks after a decorated college career at Duke. He was a first-team All-American in 2006 and graduated as the program’s all-time leader in blocked shots and rebounds.

But the 6-foot-9-inch, 250-pound Williams has struggled in his five NBA seasons; while he plays with an aggressive style, he’s undersized for a power forward and not quick enough to play small forward.

Candace Parker On Becoming A Mom

Hooped Up | May 14, 2009

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

I meant to have this up on Mothers Day, but better late than pregnant I always say (zing). Candace Parker is the best female player in the world  and right now as my friend would say she’s “kinda preggers”. This is Shelden Williams and Candace Parkers first baby and so far everybody is doing just fine. You need to know this because the dark days will soon be upon us when the NBA has played it’s last game of the season and you’ll watch at least one WNBA game before you start shaking from basketball withdrawal.

So here is your Candace Parker scouting report, current status – preggers.

WAG’s: Candace Parker Is Knocked Up

Hooped Up | January 8, 2009

I’m not a huge fan of the WNBA but, I’m a Candace Parker fan and when she gets knocked up, (which should be recognized as a medical term) its huge news! Why, you ask little Johnny? Well it’s as simple as this. Candace Parker being with child for 9 months is on par with LeBron James being with child for 9 months (eww!). In her brief time in the WNBA, after being seleceted No. 1 overall in the 2008 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks. Candace Parker has dominated, winning both the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player award followed by winning an Olympic Gold Medal at the Summer Games in Beijing.

Yeah, she’s kinda good!

“Shelden and I are very excited to be expanding our family,” said Parker. “We feel blessed and look forward to becoming parents.”

Candace Parker will be due in Spring of 2009, and this will be the first child for Parker and husband Shelden Williams of the Sacramento Kings. She will continue working out with the team and is expected to return to the court during the 2008-2009.

Congratulations, to the young couple and to future Uncle Anthony Parker of the Raptors!

Hooped Up | February 16, 2008

The Atlanta Hawks have agreed to acquire veteran point guard Mike Bibby from the Sacramento Kings.

Hawks owner Michael Gearon Jr. says the Hawks are to send four players to the Kings. Among them are 2007 first-round pick Shelden Williams and starting point guard Anthony Johnson.

The Hawks also would send guard Tyronn Lue and veteran forward-center Lorenzen Wright to the Kings.
