Homer News: Boston Celtics (33-18)

Hooped Up | February 17, 2010

Allen is rested – and relaxed
While Allen was resting during All-Star Weekend, the first time he had not participated in the game in seven years, president of basketball operations Danny Ainge was working the phones trying to improve his sagging team, with Allen’s $19.7 million expiring contract an attractive carrot for financially strapped teams seeking salary cap relief next season.

Allen focused on relaxation during a rare midseason vacation. He doted on his family, two little boys and a wife who would be just as affected by a trade as Allen. He has made a home in Boston. He has re-embraced the Northeast after years in Milwaukee and Seattle, and in fewer than 48 hours, he will know whether he will don an unfamiliar jersey with a new number and colors and shoot 3-pointers for his fourth team in 14 seasons.

Ricky Davis Suspended 5 Games

Hooped Up | December 30, 2008

No details of the Ricky Davis suspension here made public yet, but the NBA “DEA” has hit up Davis for violating the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program and that will harsh his mellow / bank account for a total of 5 games.

“We’ve been informed of the league’s action concerning Ricky Davis and we will comply with all terms of the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement,” Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. “Beyond this statement, we will have no further comment on this matter.”

5. Oh *hit! (2003 Mavericks vs. Cavaliers)

Don’t give Tom Chambers credit for dunking over Marc Jackson.  At 6′10, that’s what you are supposed to do.  Say what you will about the Triple Double Jerk, this dunk was sick!  Steve Nash really thought he could get a charge call before Ricky Davis leaped over him.

Damn right, Oh $hit.   Read More »

Clippers Sign Ricky Davis

Hooped Up | July 29, 2008

The Clippers keep marching on in the post Brand era, signing free agent swingman Ricky Davis to a one-year deal.  Davis has averaged 14.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 31.1 minutes over his career and has tallied 13.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 82 games for the Miami Heat during the 2007-08 season.

With the additions of Baron Davis, Ricky Davis, Marcus Camby and rookie Eric Gordon things just got more interesting in the west.

Get Carter

Hooped Up | February 20, 2008

Multiple sources told ESPN.com that talks with the Indiana Pacers regarding a Carter-for-Jermaine O’Neal swap were dormant, but not dead, after the Nets spent nearly a week devoting their attention to the Kidd deal with Dallas. Another source said there had been preliminary discussions on a three-way trade that would include, among other things, Carter going to the New York Knicks, Eddy Curry to Miami and the expiring contracts of Jason Williams and Ricky Davis to New Jersey. Speaking with writers at the team’s headquarters Tuesday, Thorn was asked if the continued delays in the Kidd trade — first agreed to last Wednesday but not completed until Tuesday — had impacted him on other trade fronts.

Is Ricky Right?

Hooped Up | January 1, 2008

Despite inconsistent play and late-game struggles, Heat swingman Ricky Davis believes he’s part of the solution, not the problem. The Heat (8-23) carries the worst record in the East into the New Year, but looks forward to a fresh start Wednesday against the Bucks. Davis carries plenty of the burden — and disappointment — from the rough start.

Deadline Deals On The Horizion For Heat?

Hooped Up | December 31, 2007

While much has been made about how Jason Williams’ expiring $8.9 million deal could be attractive to teams looking to clear 2008 cap space, Ricky Davis, too, is at the end of a deal, one that pays $6.8 million this season. The thought when Davis was acquired in October was the Heat would play out the contract, consider a new deal in the offseason. Now one has to wonder if Davis is even a 2007-08 necessity, or if something should be done before the Feb. 21 trading deadline. After that, the Heat essentially loses his expiring deal as a trade chip.
