Wizards Send T-Wolves The 5th Pick

The Timberwolves agreed to trade guards Randy Foye and to the Washington Wizards for the fifth overall draft pick and three players, leaving Minnesota with four first-round choices and plenty of ammunition to do even more wheeling and dealing. Two NBA officials with knowledge of the deal confirmed that the trade had been agreed upon Tuesday night. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been completed.

The deal would give Minnesota the fifth and sixth overall selections in Thursday’s , as well as forwards Etan Thomas, Darius Songaila and Oleksiy Pecherov.

Hooped Up: Minnesota Timberwolves 08-09 Season Preview

A team-by-team preview of all 30 NBA teams heading into the 2008 – 2009 season, Hooped Up style.  

Minnesota Timberwolves
Fresh off a Championship assist to the Boston Celtics, GM Kevin “Santa Claus” McHale wasn’t done there.  In the draft he traded talented guards OJ Mayo and Mario Chalmer and went with instead.  I’m sure McHale has received both thank you cards and beer from Miami and Memphis for the gift by now. 

Is there any relief in sight for this franchise?

Projected Starters: PG - / SG - / SF - / PF - / C -

Additions: , Rodney Carney, Brian Cardinal, Calvin Booth, Jason Collins, , Nikola Pekovic

Losses: Marko Jaric, Antoine Walker, Michael Doleac

Overall
The OJ Mayo trade will especially come back to haunt them in the future but, adding and Rodney Carney wasn’t that bad of a move in the short time either. If turns out to be “Kevin McHale light” then the Timberwolves will have a nice pairing with him and in the front court for years to come. But if you were terrible with Kevin Garnett you’ll only be worse without him and this year will be another season of questions for this francaise. 

Better ask Kevin McHale where he gets his sweaters from because it’s going to be another long, cold, losing one in Minnesota. Brr!

Basketball Without Borders in Turkey

Wolves guard and assistant coach Ed Pinckney are in Turkey taking part in the NBA’s Basketball without Borders program, promoting education and health among Turkish youth.

Foye and Pinckney joined Turkish natives and , in addition to Bruce Bowen, and to participate in NBA Cares events throughout Istanbul. NBA.com kept track of several days of events, which we’ll include below:
