Brandon Jennings Picks Europe Over NCAA

Hooped Up | July 14, 2008

Jennings signed to play at Arizona out of Oak Hill (Va.) Academy but is from Los Angeles. Jennings isn’t eligible for the NBA draft until a year after he graduates from high school. Jennings didn’t receive a qualifying standardized test score. His third and final test result was due Friday but Valle said it’s a moot point. Jennings is choosing Europe over Arizona.

Vaccaro said that European and Israeli teams don’t know Jennings and that’s why he needs a European-based agent. American agents Bill Duffy and Andy Miller were considered to be frontrunners for Jennings. Duffy said Friday he wasn’t pursuing Jennings as a client.

Gallinari Set For Pressure Of Playing In New York

Hooped Up | June 27, 2008

Sure, New York will be tough. Danilo Gallinari believes he is ready, since there was plenty of pressure playing in Milan.

Especially since he wore the same number as a giant of Italian hoops — who now happens to be his coach.

Gallinari proved to be worthy of wearing Mike D’Antoni’s No. 8 back home, and hopes to win over the fans that jeered him on draft night when he dons a Knicks jersey with the same number next season.

“I think it is two different worlds,” the 19-year-old Gallinari said Friday at the Knicks’ training center. “There is a lot of pressure in Milan and a lot of pressure in New York. So I’m going to different places, but same place.”

And not an easy one. Fans at the draft booed loudly when the Knicks took Gallinari on Thursday with the No. 6 pick, and that was nothing compared to what he’ll hear if he doesn’t produce right away next season.

The draft deals have officially started with the Portland Trail Blazers making a move to secure more young talent.

The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to acquire the 27th pick of Thursday’s NBA draft from the New Orleans Hornets for cash considerations, according to an online report.
