WNBA star Candace Parker who is the wife of Shelden Williams and sister of Anthony Parker talks about why she is anti-fur and her love of animals in an exclusive interview with PETA. It’s pretty crazy what some folks will do to look like a forest animal.

I really don’t know how to call this one. PETA is a radical organization that goes over the top to protect animal rights and they get positive results through shock value.  I for one really dig that, but do they really need to back Gilbert Arenas to relay their non-violent message?

On the same day Arenas is scheduled to appear in court on weapons charges. PETA has stated that they will stand behind Arenas who is featured in their latest INK NOT MINK poster campaign. Somehow this seems like bad timing though.

Recently Amar’e Stoudemire took some time out of his busy schedule to help advocate animal rights in collaboration with PETA by shooting two anti-fur ads. In this behind the scenes video, STAT speaks about his love for animals and why he got involved to help make a change.

Other people who have stepped up in or around the NBA for animal rights are Lakers scout Bonnie-Jill Laflin, Ron Artest, and Lamar Odom’s wife Khloe Kardashian.

Three times in the past, animal control officers were called to the house of Ron Artest and each time they found dogs that were malnourished and neglected. In each, incident the dogs were taken from Artest and placed with other families where they fully regained there weight and were fine thereafter.

Despite his past mistakes, Artest has since stepped up to raise animal awarmness by doing a public service announcement for PETA and next Monday, Artest will host a fundraiser for the Houston Humane Society at Capone’s Restaurant and Bar.

“I was an irresponsible pet owner, and I got in some trouble,” Artest said after a practice last week at Toyota Center. “PETA came and showed me how to be a better pet owner. A lot of times, it’s a simple thing. One of my problems was that the fence around my home wasn’t safe enough. I had a lot of dogs, and they kept getting out. The thing is, just because you’re irresponsible, it doesn’t mean you don’t love your pets. I loved my dogs. You just need to be more mature and accountable for how you treat your animals. I had to be educated.”

Well played, Mr. Artest!

If Rashad McCants had his eye on a new fur or baby seal coat for those cold Minnesota winters before, he is definitely not now! His main squeeze Khloe Kardashian, recently bared all for PETA in an anti-fur ad and if McCants gets a tofu winter coat this Christmas from Khloe, he probably won’t be too surprised. But seriously, who the hell wears a fur coat anyway? Unless your an Eskimo…it’s kinda extra.

Ron Artest isn’t the only one down with PETA. Bonnie-Jill Laflin is a former Dallas Cowboy cheerleader and the only female scout in the NBA, for the Los Angeles Lakers. In this new PETA ad she bares all, as a playful reminder that while it may not be the best time to grow your wealth, it’s the perfect time to grow your health by going vegetarian.
